SEW
Social Entrepreneurship for Women

An initiative by the U.S. Consulate General-Hyderabad
The U.S. Consulate General supports the empowerment of women through various measures, including social entrepreneurship. Though Hyderabad offers several avenues for young entrepreneurs, it has limited facilities to assist youth interested in social entrepreneurship, specifically young women. For want of adequate support, women – particularly from the underserved communities – who are interested in pursuing careers in social entrepreneurship find it difficult to emerge as successful social entrepreneurs.
Social Entrepreneurship for women (SEW) is an initiative by the U.S. Consulate General- Hyderabad Office is aimed at providing opportunities to familiarize young women with the nuances of social entrepreneurship thus empowering aspiring young women with the tools and skills to follow their own social entrepreneurial endeavors. The SEW project was awarded to KIIT University for the period of one year (30/09/2017-30/09/2018).
- Support the empowerment of women by providing social entrepreneurial skills and mentoring opportunities to encourage women to pursue further education and career paths in social entrepreneurship.
- Promote the understanding of social entrepreneurship among women college students and aspiring young women entrepreneurs.
- Strengthen people-to-people ties between the United States and India by facilitating the exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge, and methods of teaching social entrepreneurship to women college students between the two countries.

- The entire program which ran across 3 states and touched 10 tier-II cities
- The workshops were conducted in 12 colleges which had a total outreach Impact of 743 women students across the various educational domains of arts, science, and commerce across the graduate and postgraduate level.
- The 24 ideas were selected and provided with an additional two days of mentoring from the experts and connected to various funding programs.
