Bioprocess Lab
Overview
The bioprocess facility provides a complete setup for protein production in lab scale, optimization of recombinant organism with bioreactor by using different technique, yield optimization and develop high cell density culture technique for different organisms to get maximum yield.
We provide services and also conduct several workshops, student training program to provide hands-on experience on industrial bioprocess systems.

Upstream bioprocessing
The upstream part of a bioprocess refers to the first step in which microbes/cells are grown, (e.g. bacterial or yeast) in a bioreactor. Upstream processing involves all the steps related to inoculum development, media development, optimization of growth kinetics so that product development can improve tremendously. Our facility provides process & product development facility, where we can do a high cell density culture. When the microbial culture reaches the desired density (for batch and fed-batch cultures) they are harvested and moved to the downstream section of the bioprocess.
- Shaker Incubator – New BrunswickTM Innova® 42R
Biological shaker-incubator is essential to ensure the cell growth and proliferation continues under stable, predictable environmental conditions. We have the Innova 42R (refrigerated model) which provides temperature control from 4°C to 80° & shaking speed range 25 rpm – 400 rpm.
- Biosafety Cabinet – Nu-Air Class-ll
NuAire Class II, Type BSL-A2 Biological Safety Cabinets offer personnel, product, and environmental protection to obtain optimum control over product quality while reducing the potential for exposure of both product and personnel to airborne biological or particulate chemical agents in low to moderate risk-hazard research and drug preparation or product operations.
- Bioreactor-Eppendorf BioFlo® 115
New Brunswick Scientific's BioFlo/CelliGen 115 is an exceptionally capable benchtop fermentor/bioreactor. We have 7.5 & 14 Liter capacities, this system has been designed to provide the versatility to grow virtually any cell type: aerobic or anaerobic; microbes, yeast, insect, plant and mammalian cells. This is the heart of any bioprocess industry.
By using bioreactor we can do batch & fed-batch (High cell density) culture.
- Ultra Centrifuge-SIGMA 6-16KS
The sigma 6-16ks is universal high speeds centrifuge with fixed-angle rotors, gentle acceleration with swing-out rotors, and an extensive range of accessories and rotors enable a wide variety of application areas. Our facility can provide the centrifuge capacity up to 3L of culture media at one batch.
Downstream bioprocessing
The downstream part of a bioprocess refers to the part where the cell mass from the upstream are processed to meet purity and quality requirements. Downstream processing is usually divided into two main sections: cell disruption and a purification section.
- Ultra-Sonication –Sonics® VC-750
We have probe ultrasonicator –VC-120 & VC-750 with various probes which provide ultrasonic Processors to safely process a wide range of organic and inorganic materials, from 250 microliters to 1 liter. Typical applications include cell lysing, sample preparation.
- FPLC-GE AKTA Pure 25M
‘AKTA pure’ is a flexible and intuitive chromatography system for fast purification of proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids from microgram to gram levels of the target product. ‘AKTA Pure’ series is a benchmark instrument used equally by trained laboratory staff members biotech academia and industry. This offers easy options for optimization and scale-up for bio-molecule purification.
